Turning of the Sod

28th Jun, 2023

Monday, 26th June, was a wonderful day for our school.  The ‘Turning of the Sod’ ceremony took place to mark the commencement of the Construction Phase of our Building Project.  We were joined at the ceremony by Fr. Declan and Fr. Noel, members of the Board of Management and Parents’ Association, representatives from Ganson Building and Civil Engineering and local representatives, Shane Cassells and Damien English.  Sr. Marie Louise and Sr. Laurentio represented the Sisters of Mercy.  We were joined by members of staff and a group of very excited children who represented, at the ceremony, all of the children of St. Joseph’s Mercy Primary School.  There was great delight when Fr. Declan and Sr. Marie Louise turned the sod!  We acknowledge, on this great occasion for our school, the work of previous and current Principals and Boards of Management, MCOH architects, the Design Team and staff in the Building Unit in the Department of Education in bringing our Building Project to this stage.  The delivery of this project will ensure that generations of pupils in our school will benefit from modern facilities and continued excellence in education on our beautiful site, which is rich in history and located in the heart of the town of Navan.  The date of commencement of the Construction Stage is 10th July and we pray, through the intercession of St. Joseph, for the safety of all on site and for a build that will benefit many generations of children to come.
